Many business don’t have an inhouse HR or training team. Wellbeing is often championed by business leaders and employees but, with limited knowledge and expertise, they are wondering how best to help their staff manage now and in the future. AITO – The Association for Independent Tour Operators – invited me to run a coaching webinar for their members on how to make sense of our individual circumstances and find the positives. I was thrilled to be able to share my experience, tools and techniques to support an industry that I am passionate about and worked in for 20 years.
Are you in Survival mode?
When under pressure, stress and feeling anxious our brains are working in survival mode. This is not helpful as emotions hijack how we react and feel. It limits our ability to reflect, use our imagination and even influences are sense of morality. If we can stay in COMPETENCY mode we can be far more positive.
The person/team who own the problem/challenge also own the solution
As a coach my job is to help the delegates to understand what is going on, what they want to change for the better and how they can achieve that. I support and facilitate their thinking to overcome the blind spots and see the answers.
I shared with the group 3 tools which they were able to use straight away to help gain clarity, gain control and work towards goals.

5 Top tips to feel more positive
- Start or end your day with a positive gratitude – what three things are you grateful for?
- Journaling – use this tool to create some headspace and gain clarity on what is consuming your mind.
- Acts of kindness – the situation has created a great opportunity to do something for others.
- Eat your frog – prioritise the one thing that you NEED to do and which is probably playing on your mind. What are you putting off?
- Be kind – have realistic expectations for yourself and for others.
