Here are my top tips for hiring the right coach. As a coach one of my key priorities is the safety and well-being of my client and conducting myself within the ethical boundaries I adhere to as part of my accreditation.
Here is what to look out for:
- Accreditation. I am a PCC accredited coach which means I have completed over 125 hours of coach specific training and I have over 700 hours of client coaching to date
- Training. There are a number of providers of coach training. Check out where your perspective coach trained, for how long and what they were certified in at the end.
- Testimonials. These are hugely powerful and insightful so ask to speak to previous clients to hear first-hand what their experience was like working with the coach.
- Insurance. Check that your coach has public liability insurance. This is another indicator of how they see their responsibility to you the client.
- Cost. Fees vary hugely and may not be a strong indicator of their professionalism, level of accreditation or training. So start with all those important points first!
