The first time I became really aware of Jacinda was when there was publicity around the birth of her child. It hit the headlines because I believe she is the first ever Prime Minister to have a child whilst in that position. I remember thinking how refreshing it was to see. I was impressed by how she seemingly took it in her stride. No huge media hullabaloo. They showed the World but she hadn’t called in the “glam squad”. I respect her for that.
I have been blown away by how Jacinda Ardern has lead her country over the last few days. The empathy, warmth and genuine connection with the people she leads has been incredible. Watching her on the news yesterday brought me to tears. The way she held a complete stranger who needed to be held during a time of overwhelming grief was immensely touching.
I have been impressed by her use of language. She speak clearly, with integrity, with honesty and we all resonated with her words. How different is that to our leaders in this country? There is really resonance. Their words lack conviction. There is little trust now too. Change takes forever and they appear never to fully agree. Everyone is trying to shout louder than the next person. Can they hear themselves? Do they really listen to each other. Jacinda listens.
Jacinda has created change already. The gun laws are being reviewed without delay, without arduous debate. It is clear what needs to happen and the powers that be are coming together, united to create change for the better.
Jacinda in her compassion for her people talks of sympathy and love. I can’t even imagine our PM or political parties using such language with such conviction.
If there was ever a leader to learn from I believe Jacinda is outstanding. Unquestionable integrity.
